Sunflower

Petals brushed her nose as she breathed in the earthy joy. He had never seen her shine so brightly.

"It's too much. You spoil her so."

He huffed the sigh of a long-fought battle. "Our daughter deserves to see the sun once in her life, if only in a flower."

And who could argue, watching her lost in the complex infinity of stigma and florets? A worthy purchase.

All at once, her soul was on fire. She dreamed herself a sunflower—rooted in dirt and the only home she knew star-flung above her—the smallest escape from life on Level 93.
